Bee Balm is an upright herbaceous  perennial with aromatic serrated dark green foliage.  The fringe-like scarlet red flowers blooms in whorls at the top of the thick stems in summer, attracting bees and butterflies.  Best bloom in full sun and well-drained soil.

Monarda didyma is a native host for several moths, including Gray Marvel and Hermit Sphinx.  The flower nectar also attracts other pollinators, bees, butterflies, and the Ruby-Throated hummingbird.
