Sword Bean is a vigorous climbing perennial with self twinning wood stems and large dark green trifoliate foliage. The soft purple flowers bloom from late spring through summer, and are followed by huge edible beans. Blooms best in full sun and well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.
*Though the young seedpods are edible fresh, mature seeds need to be boiled first.
