Saturn Hens and Chicks is a mat-forming evergreen succulent that grows in rosettes of flat green and rose toned foliage that turns fully red when stressed in sun and tightens into a ball for winter. The mother Rosset(hen) spreads out with horizontal stems to seed offsets (chicks). Infrequently in summer a short stalk rises from the hen sporting clusters of pink flowers. The hen dies after flowering, giving space for the chicks to grow. Best color with full sun and dry to medium well-drained soils. Drought and heat tolerant once established.
