Hens and Chicks is a mat-forming evergreen succulent with thick fleshy foliage that grows in rosettes. The mother rosette (hen) spreads out with horizontal stems to seed offsets (chicks). In summer a tall stalk rises from the hen sporting clusters of red-purple flowers. The hen dies after flowering, giving space for the chicks to grow. Best color with full sun and dry to medium well-drained soils. Drought and heat tolerant once established.
