Variegated Oregano is a bushy perennial herb often used in Italian dishes. The wiry stems and aromatic leaves with white margins are topped with short flower clusters of tiny white or pink flowers that last from midsummer into fall. Variegated Oregano is a less vigorous spreader, but grows dense enough to make a good ground cover. Grows best in full sun or with light afternoon shade in Southern climates and well drained soils. Harvest greens just before the white flowers emerge, as flavor will be brightest.
Oregano is believed to have an affinity for the respiratory and digestive systems. You can find oregano mixed with honey in traditional cough syrups.*
