Purpledisc Sunflower is a native perennial with a hairy stem and simple foliage that gets smaller as it goes up the stem . A long bloom of showy yellow flowers with purple-brown disks once the seeds fall bloom from mid summer until late fall. Best bloom in full sun in average well-drained soils. Deer resistant.
Helianthus atrorubens is a host for the Silvery Checkerspot and provides late season nectar for various pollinators. Its seeds are also favored by birds and small mammals.
