Sweet Sandia Echinacea is an upright free-branching native perennial with strong stems that do not need staking and grey-green foliage.  Its large fragrant flowers with broad bicolor petals that have green tips and dark pink centers that looks like a slice of watermelon bloom from midsummer into mid fall.  Thrives in full sun and well-drained soils.  The flowers attract butterflies and bees, and spent stems will stay erect and attract birds if not removed.
