Ayers Pear is a fast-growing deciduous tree primarily grown for its fruit but has wonderful red or yellow fall color. Fragrant pink and white spring flowers give way to large aromatic fruits with smooth sweet flesh and yellow skin with a red blush as they ripen in mid summer. Grows best in full sun and rich, moist well-drained soils. Ayers is a self pollinator but sets fruit better with another cultivar and has high resistance to fire blight.

Other issues include canker, powdery mildew, scab, and anthracnose. Possible pests include pear psylla, coddling moth and borers. Fallen fruit can be messy if not harvested.
