Thornless Prickly Pear is a thornless edible evergreen succulent where the pad, flower petals, and pears can be eaten.  The fleshy pads are medium green and the showy yellow flower blooms in summer.  Prefers full sun and well-drained soil.  While thornless, the tiny glochids on the pad can still be irritate the skin- it is best handled between the glochid dots.

Like Aloe, the skinned pads of the Thornless Prickly Pear can be used topically for wounds, burns, and edema.  It can also be drank as a tea to treat various lung ailments and reduce fever.*
