Sunny After Eight Oriental Lily is a dwarf bulbous perennial with thick dark green basal leaves.  Sturdy stems sport huge upright dark pink speckled flowers with white edging that bloom in midsummer.  Prefers full sun on the upper plant with the roots shaded and moist well-drained acidic soil.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low Maintenance. Do not let the soil dry out- however, too much moisture without draining will led to bulb rot.  Lily leaf beetles can be an issue.  Other potential problems include mosaic virus, aphids, and botrytis.

HOLIDAY CONTAINER CARE: Place containers in a moderately lit room.  Because the decorative containers do not have drainage holes, only a light watering once a week when the top soil is dry is necessary.  If mounted instead of planted in soil, mist the plant more often.  If you think you have overwatered, tilt the container into the sink to drain any excess water.  Containers will last 6-8 weeks with proper care.

BULB CARE:  After bulbs have bloomed, cut the foliage off with a sharp knife to 1-2" above the bulb.  Continue to water and fertilize and keep bulb near a sunny window.  To induce blooming, place the bulb in a dark, cool and dry location (such as a basement or cellar) for 8-10 weeks. (If Christmas is the desired bloom time, put the bulb "to bed" around mid October.  After 8-10 weeks, place bulb back in a well lit, warm location and continue to water and fertilize.
