Chinese Indigo is a compact deciduous shrub with a spreading habit and compound dark green pinnate foliage.  Dense racemes of light pink pea-like flowers bloom heavily in early summer and continue irregularly through the rest of summer.  Prefers some afternoon shade in southern climates and well-drained soils.  Tolerates alkaline soils and some drought.
