Osaka Red Cabbage is a cool season annual with deeply serrated basal foliage that has green outer leaves and dark purple-red heart that intensifies after a few hard frosts. While edible, its not as tender and grown for it ornamental value. Best if grown in rich, consistently moist well-drained loamy soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance. A cool seasonal plant best grown in spring or fall. Potential insect problems include cabbageworms, cabbage loopers, flea beetles, caterpillars, thrips, slugs and aphids. Root maggots may be a problem in some areas. Watch for leaf spots, blackleg, black rot and yellows.
