Toscana Barberry is a compact upright-branching deciduous shrub valued for its vibrant foliage that grows full to the ground.  Its leaves are large for a Barberry and emerge in spring a showy red with a fine yellow margin that fades in summer as the leaves darken and eventually gains a burgundy tone in fall.  Best color in full sun ad well-drained soils.  Drought and deer resistant.

Barberry has known use of the root bark as an anthelmintic, antiseptic and febrifuge, and can be used orally as a treatment for various enteric infections.*
