Waterfall Japanese Maple is a small cascading deciduous tree with weeping branches that nearly touch the ground. It displays deep, almost lace-like, finely cut soft green leaves that become gold in fall. Small, non-showy but attractive umbels of purple flowers bloom in spring followed by samaras. Grows best in rich, moist, slightly acidic well-drained soils. Prefers full sun in cooler climates, but needs afternoon shade in southern areas.
