Shantung Maple is a small densely branched deciduous tree with a rounded crown. The large triangular 5-lobed leaves emerge reddish-purple and mature to medium green before earning shades of yellow and orange with occasional hues of purple or red in fall. Small non-showy umbels of greenish-yellow flowers bloom mid-spring followed by samaras. Grows best in rich and moist well-drained acidic soils.
