Chinese Fringe Tree is often grown as a large multi-stemmed deciduous shrub or small tree with attractive exfoliating grey bark. The leathery bright green foliage turns yellow in fall. Terminal clusters of mildly fragrant pure white fringe-like flowers bloom heavily in spring and summer. Female flowers give way to clusters of olive-like fruits that mature to blue-black in fall. Grows best in rich, moist acidic well-drained soils. Intolerant of drought.
