Ruby Heart Hens and Chicks is a mat-forming evergreen succulent that grows in rosettes of sharply pointed grey-green to blue-green foliage with a flush of rosy red at the base that intensifies as the weather cools. The mother Rosset(hen) spreads out with horizontal stems to seed offsets (chicks). Infrequently in summer a short stalk rises from the hen sporting clusters of pinkish-purple flowers. The hen dies after flowering, giving space for the chicks to grow. Best color with full sun and dry to medium well-drained soils. Drought and heat tolerant once established.
