Sweet Bay Magnolia is a native multi-trunk evergreen tree with large fragrant cup shaped white flowers that bloom in spring and occasionally into summer. The foliage is deep green with silvery undersides. Best color in full sun and moist, slightly-acidic, well-drained soil.
Magnolia virginiana is a host plant for the Tiger, Spicebush, and Palamedes Swallowtail butterflies as well as the Sweetbay Silkmoth. The seeds, sap, and nectar of attracts pollinators and small mammals as well.
