Red Barrenwort is a shade loving semi-evergreen herbaceous perennial with toothed green heart-shaped foliage that emerges with red tints and turns completely red in fall. Nodding crimson flowers with short creamy spurs bloom in spring. Thrives in shade and dry to medium, well-drained acidic soils. Drought tolerant once established.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance. Mosaic virus the main disease, but otherwise little problems. Cut back any surviving winter foliage in late winter before new growth emerges.
