Shinko Asian Pear is a heavily fruiting deciduous tree with a showy spring flowering and upright habit grown for its large summer fruit.  The glossy dark green foliage emerges burgundy tinted and turns yellow in fall.  The large golden russet round fruits have a rich and sweet flavor and white flesh similar to an apple, and are ready for harvest in late summer into fall.  Grows best in full sun and rich, moist well-drained soils. Shinko is partially self-pollinating and heavy bearing enough that crops should be thinned to prevent limb breakage. Very resistant to fireblight.

Asian pears keep their texture when cooked, and store for long times. Needs a cross-pollinator, and has a low chill requirement of 400-500 hours.
