Fairchild Mandarin is a winter fruit-producing evergreen shrub with a spreading crown, and dense, mostly thornless foliage. The juicy orange fruit ripen early and have a rich sweet tangy flavor. The rind pealability differs between early and late season- it is much easier to peal the late season fruits- and allow the fruit to ripen on the tree for best flavor. Grows best in full sun and sandy to loamy well-drained acidic soils. Fairchild needs a pollinator to set fruit.
