Cherry Explosion Hydrangea is a hardy compact deciduous shrub with serrated dark green leaves that turn burgundy as the weather cools. The outer florets are incredibly large bright cherry red lacecap flowers in alkaline soil and lavender flowers in acidic soil surrounding the tiny star shaped center petals of a lighter matching shade and bloom though summer, attracting butterflies. Best bloom in partial sun and rich, moist well-drained soils.
