Spring Grove Dogwood is a low branching native deciduous tree with a rounded crown and extremely abundant flowering. Its medium green leaves turn burgundy in fall. The abundant clusters of button flowers with large white brackets create the illusion of 5" flowers and bloom heavily in spring, attracting butterflies. Prefers part sun and slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Spring Grove has an improved tolerance for both cold and heat, and supreme resistance to anthracnose.
Cornus florida is a host for Spring Azure butterfly and Cecropia Silkmoth, and supports several specialized bees. The fruits are browsed by songbirds and mammals. Learn more about planting for butterflies with Georgia natives with this brochure.
