Gunsmoke Switch Grass is a native warm-season ornamental grass with a dense upright habit and fine green foliage with a smoky quality that turns yellow then beige in fall. In summer stems holding airy clusters create a cloud of tiny, softly smoky toned flowers above the foliage which turn smoky purple in fall and persist through winter. Prefers part sun and moist well-drained soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance plant. Too much shade will lose its upright form. Beetles and mites are occasional problems. Root and crown rot may occur in poorly drained soils. Some susceptibility to rust.
