Katsura Tree
Cercidiphyllum japonicum
Katsura Tree is a medium-sized deciduous tree with low stiff arching branches forming a dense pyramidal habit when young that slowly opens. The broad heart-shaped foliage emerges with red to purple and matures to green with a blue tint before turning into a showy red, orange, and gold in fall. The fallen leaves give off a cinnamon scent. Insignificant blooms. Grows best in part sun and moist well-drained soils. Intolerant of drought, especially when young.
