Crystal Deep Red Ornamental Kale is a cool season annual with heavily ruffled and fringed basal foliage. The outer leaves are a very dark green tinged with purple and highlighted by the clear deep red inner color that holds through winter and becomes more vivid as temperature drops. Best if grown in rich, consistently moist well-drained loamy soils. This is not an edible variety.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance. A cool seasonal plant best grown in spring or fall. Potential insect problems include cabbageworms, cabbage loopers, flea beetles, caterpillars, thrips, slugs and aphids. Root maggots may be a problem in some areas. Watch for leaf spots, blackleg, black rot and yellows.
