Loquat is a small fruit-producing evergreen tree with a short trunk and upward reaching branches. The strongly-veined leathery dark green foliage has a lighter rusty green underside leathery dark green foliage. Large panicles of sweetly fragrant white star-shaped flowers bloom in late fall to early winter. Following the flowers are edible fruits with smooth or downy yellow to orange skin that ripen in spring. Prefers consistently moist well-drained soils.
