Manchurian Crabapple
Malus baccata var. mandshuria
Manchurian Crabapple is a fruiting deciduous tree with spreading branches forming a rounded crown and a wonderful early spring flower display. The green foliage with paler green undersides turn yellow in fall. Its abundant pink buds open to highly fragrant white flowers that coat the branches in spring, attracting butterflies. The tiny red crabapples ripen in fall but are very tart and best used for cider. Best fruiting in full sun with moist, well-drained acidic soil. Drought and urban tolerant once established.
